Frequently asked questions about the lodge

Q: What size and types of groups do you host?

A: The lodge is well equipped for large groups (10 or more) and is perfect for craft retreats, yoga retreats, family reunions, golf outings, girls/guys weekends, and small weddings.

Q: I want to host an event (like a scrapbooking or quilting retreat).  Can I host my event at the lodge?  

A: Yes!  You are responsible for bringing in catering/food and other items that are related to your event.  Please be aware, there may be additional cleaning fees applied for events.

Q: Can I bring my boat and do you have public access?

A: In an effort to maintain the pristine nature of Matson Lake, it is designated as non-motorized by the WI DNR, which means that combustable engines are not allowed on the lake.  There is no public access. However, non-motorized watercraft are available and allowed on the lake. 

Q: What is the beach like and can we swim in Matson Lake?

A: Yes, you can swim in Matson Lake!  We are continuing to develop our waterfront while preserving the natural frontage.  There is a dock and swimming raft, as well as a "Lilly Pad."  The lake is over 60 feet deep, which makes for a refreshing swim!

Q: Is there access to ATV/UTV and snowmobile trails?

A: Trails are accessed off Washburn County Hwy T, one mile from the lodge.  These trails link up with hundreds of miles of trails in Washburn, Sawyer, Rusk and Barron Counties!

Q: What is the closest town?

A: Birchwood is six miles south of the lodge and easily accessed by car.  There are gas stations, restaurants, hardware and grocery stores in town, as well as several shops and snowmobile and ATV/UTV rental and service.

Q: What other towns are in the area?

A: Hayward is 35 minutes north, Spooner is 35 minutes northwest and Rice Lake is 30 minutes southwest of the lodge. Rice Lake offers the most services, including an emergency hospital.
